Based on the system of the Aṣṭādhyāyī, the explanatory text Śabdakaustubha is an advanced treatise, rooted in the Māyā school of grammatical philosophy. Among the many works in this tradition, Siddhāntakaumudī stands out for its systematic and procedural clarity in presenting grammatical rules. In this book, a comparative and critical analysis of the Samāsa (compound) rules as presented in Siddhāntakaumudī and Śabdakaustubha has been carried out. Each Samāsa-sūtra (compound-forming rule) is explained in detail with its meaning, examples, and relevant commentary. Additionally, the associated vārttikas (supplementary rules or observations) and explanatory notes are also included.
