As part of the preservation of the oral tradition of the Vedas, Sree Sankaracharya Unisviity of Sanskrit, Kalady has undertaken the audio/video recording of the Jaiminlya Samaveda of Kerala, a couple of years back. The chanting of Säma in Jaiminiya tradition is peculiar to Kerala and has been practiced in certain Namboothiri families. It is a fast disappearing tradition in the context of quickly changing social and intellectual climate. The University took the initiative to record the chanting of Samaveda by traditional scholars in the village, Päññäl in Thrissur Dist., Kerala. The recorded matter in 95 hours is preserved in the Central Library of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady for reference and research. It will be made available for research purpose to scholars and institutions, on request, for the price fixed by the University. Project of Remaking of these CDs into interactive CD ROM is in progress.
